Pyramids in Australia?

Glyph2.jpg (14240 bytes)

On the outskirts of Gympie, off Tin Can Bay Road the 'stepped pyramid' of Gympie exists. Gympie is situated on the Mary River 160km north of Brisbane Queensland Australia.

Although constructed of huge granite blocks stands about 100 feet tall. A small stone idol unearthed near the Gympie Pyramid is also believed to represent the Egyptian God "Thoth" in ape form clutching the Tau or the Cross of Life. This statuette is badly weathered with age. Thoth was the god of writing & wisdom, depicted as an ape by the Egyptians until about 1000 BC when he became an Ibis-headed human bodied deity who recorded the judgment of the souls of Amenti, the after world. Thoth's symbol was the papyrus flower.

An ancient 'Terrace Hill' at least 6000 years old has been found on the outskirts of Gympie off Tin Can Bay Road. The Pyramidal structure is 100 foot high and consists of a series of terraces up to 4 feet tall and eight feet across constructed of small and larger lumps of stone. It was recorded by the first white man into the area in the 1850's.

Another crudely built pyramid structure at least twice the height and dimensions of the Gympie example has been found near the NSW Central Coast by Rex Gilroy.

In NE New Guinea, 5 pyramidal structures identical to the Gympie Structure have been found.

The Gympie Pyramid mysteries revealed at last?

One of our most controversial Australian stories has been recorded in a new 148-page book titled The Gympie Pyramid Story by the equally controversial Gympie author Brett J. Green. The book taking nearly 15 years to compile, aims at presenting a fair and unbiased overview of myths, legends, stories, claims and counter-claims associated with the Gympie Pyramid Legend - and to reveal some astounding truths, never-seen-before sketch drawings, and the only remaining exclusive photographs that will give just reason for skeptics and academics to reconsider their verdicts on all past claims and theories. The detailed work is also an exciting historical journey into unrecognized Australian history based on theoretical and factual records held in national institutions around the world whose ancestors had extremely detailed knowledge of the region well before Australia's discovery by a British mariner called James Cook.

Claims and counter-claims of an ancient pyramid discovery in the 1960's have bounced back and forth for nearly forty years like a tennis match on whether such a relic did or did not exist during eons past.

These speculations were further enhanced by many media headlines over successive years, highly publicized theoretical findings of opportunists, amateur geologists and archaeologists, skeptics, research societies and psychics. Add to these the Internet and the myth is further perpetuated. Today, the jury is still deciding its verdict. That it was not of Aboriginal and European origin but built by some ancient civilization plundering the gold resources of the Gympie goldfields only added to the intrigue of a growing myth.

At the height of its popularity, strong debate raged throughout the community with the sanity of many being questioned. There were instances where public divisions were so great over the pyramid theories that some property owners in the vicinity of the site took matters into their own hands against speculators. Stories surfaced of treasure seekers and souvenir hunters ravaging the pyramid site with picks, shovels and a bulldozer or two. Vandals went berserk. Souvenir hunters had a field day. Spiritual cults practiced rituals at the peak at midnight and the full moon. It was sensationalism gone mad.

As a result, the claimed site became damaged and stripped of evidences to such extent it is barely recognizable. To the viewer today, the vestiges of antiquity cannot be seen - it is nothing but a stone covered forested hill. It is a legacy of pure stupidity - the irresponsible may have indeed destroyed what may have been Australia's most valuable ancient site - our only real clue to a very ancient past. Today, the hype and media sensationalism of years past has declined. The pyramid story is virtually unknown to the modern generation. Many attempts have been made to substantiate the myth with claimed discoveries of ancient artifacts. Some claims appear to have credence. However, the majority reveal nothing but images from wishful creative minds.

Despite these setbacks, the ongoing search for proven evidences of Australia's lost pyramids and that ancient civilizations frequented our shores has been the goal for professional and amateur investigators throughout Australia for nearly eighty years. Through their work, there appears to be sufficient mounting evidence that their claims could have some credibility after all. As more facts are added and fictionalized versions are dispersed to the rubbish bin, skeptics themselves are becoming more susceptible to the fact that perhaps there may be some cause for acceptance of the old folkloric story. New evidence revealed in the book will help that cause.

The Gympie Ape- A stone ape statue possibility 3000 years old. The statue was unearthed in 1966 on Mr Dal K. Berrys Wolvi Rd property. The ape is made of conglomerate iron stone and shows a squatting ape figure.  It is believed to represent the Egyptian God “Thoth” in ape form.

A smaller stone idol unearthed near the Gympie Pyramid is also believed to represent the Egyptian God “Thoth” in ape form clutching the Tau or the Cross of Life. This statuette is badly weathered with age. Thoth was the god of writing & wisdom, depicted as an ape by the Egyptians until about 1000 BC when he became an Ibis-headed human bodied deity who recorded the judgment of the souls of Amenti, the after world. Thoth’s symbol was the papyrus flower.

An ancient metal spoon ,about 140mm long, of an unknown bronze alloy was found by Mr. Cyril Tindal in the vicinity of Mothor Mountain (Gympie). 1.)Metallurgists who have examined the spoon agree it is crude and hand forged and of great antiquity & has been matched with other examples from the ancient Middle East. 2.)Spoons like this one were made by blacksmiths for handling Mercury used in gold mining, which Gympie is known for.

At Dogun, schoolboy Cliff Brown 13, found an elephant about 100mm high carved from beige granite. It is thought to be the Hindu God “Ganesha”.
